WWE have posted brilliant footage of the reactions of commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee to Liv Morgan winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank.
Morgan won her first WWE title in dramatic circumstances last Sunday. Firstly, she was successful in the annual women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, beating six other competitors to the briefcase. The contract permitted her a world title opportunity within the following year.
Morgan took her chance almost immediately. She cashed in the briefcase after Ronda Rousey defeated Natalya to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship later in the night. Rousey locked her in the Ankle Lock, but Morgan escaped the move and rolled up her opponent for the pinfall.
WWE fans, Superstars and Legends were elated with the 28-year-old’s victory. Morgan is seen as one of the hardest-working wrestlers in the business. Her title victory is, therefore, just reward for her efforts.
Michael Cole, Pat McAfee celebrate Liv Morgan victory
Another notable moment after Morgan’s victory was the reactions of Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. The duo were at the commentary table for Rousey vs Natalya. Subsequently, they summarised the MITB cash-in.
Cole and McAfee were both clearly happy for the newest SmackDown Women’s Champion. Naturally, however, as the action is focused on those inside the ring, WWE fans do not generally get to see the commentators’ reactions.
There are rare occasions that this happens. For instance, when John Cena returned at last year’s Money in the Bank event to confront Roman Reigns, fan footage showed Cole in hysterics.
This time around, WWE actually had live cameras on the pair to track their reactions to Liv Morgan’s date with destiny – and the footage is incredible.
It takes Cole a few seconds to recognise that Morgan’s music hits, but he and McAfee quickly rise to his feet when she appears in the arena.
Both men then punch the air when Morgan secures the pinfall. McAfee is visibly stunned, yet elated, at what he has seen.
It was a great moment that gave WWE fans some insight into what it is like to be a commentator reacting to the most significant moments in wrestling.
