MJF calls Tony Khan a “f***ing mark” during hard-hitting AEW promo

MJF delivered an incredible promo on the latest edition of AEW Dynamite, where he called promoter Tony Khan a “f***ing mark.”

It is no secret that there is an ongoing situation between MJF, AEW and Khan. It has been claimed by PWTorch that the wrestler is earning less money than former WWE stars in the company.

But his latest promo stunned wrestling fans.

MJF v Tony Khan: The backstory

According to reports, MJF feels disrespected because AEW does not pay him the same amount as the company pays some of the ex-WWE stars who have signed in recent years.

In March, MJF appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, in which he praised WWE. This reportedly did not go down well with AEW, and the 26-year-old had a heated conversation with Tony Khan.

Then, in May, Fightful Select reported that the star had approached his promoter about his contract and the salary he was receiving from the company.

The AEW star has repeatedly reiterated that he wanted to move where the money was. His current deal expires in 2024.

Speaking at a convention, he said: “I did not get into this business to make any of you happy. I got into this business to make as much money as humanly possible.

“And if Vincent Kennedy McMahon is willing to shell out more money than my good friend Tony Khan, then yes, I would go to WWE.”

While some of the other claims were made on evidently scripted promos on AEW, MJF maintained his frustrations in interviews off-air. This gave the first indication that his anger went beyond just scripts.

“F*** this place”

At the end of May, MJF tweeted and quickly deleted a response to Khan’s media comments.

“I think wrestling thrives when real life meets on screen,” Khan said.

“The real-life conflict is often just as exciting as any conflict on screen, which is one of the great things about what AEW has brought to the wrestling business.

“There was no real, major free-agent market with the top stars crossing promotions, and debuting, and frankly, the competition needed to be brought to the biggest stage. In the 90s, we had TBS and TNT both in the wrestling game. And now, with the launch of AEW, we’ve been able to bring that back.”

MJF responded: “F***king lol. F***k this place man.”

Two days after his comments, MJF failed to show up for an AEW meet and greet. He was due to face Wardlow at AEW Double or Nothing last weekend, but was not seen backstage hours before the event.

He did eventually show up at the arena, but Fightful report that he told them he had left immediately after his segment was completed.

MJF calls Tony Khan a “f***ing mark”

On 1 June, MJF delivered a promo live on Dynamite. In it, he criticised other AEW stars signed from WWE, referring to “ex-WWE guys who can’t lace [my] boots“. He also called Khan out directly.

In the promo, MJF addressed his issues with Khan, mentioning the disagreements they have had over pay and the fact he feels disrespected.

He then shouted: “Look at me Tony. Look at me. I want you to fire me. You f***ing mark. Fire me!”

After his last remark, MJF’s mic was cut off. And whilst fans are debating whether the MJF/Khan feud has been developed into a worked storyline by the pair, they still wait with excitement to find out what road it goes down next.
