AEW star MJF has been removed from the company’s roster online as the saga continues over his wrestling future.
On Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite, the 26-year-old shocked wrestling fans by delivering a promo similar to that of CM Punk‘s infamous ‘pipebomb’ in WWE.
During the promo, he insulted various former WWE stars that AEW have signed. In addition, he claimed some of them were “not fit to lace [my] boots”. He then repeatedly told AEW promoter Tony Khan to fire him, before calling him a “f***ing mark”. His microphone was then cut off.
That last remark has led to wrestling fans believing that this is more of a worked shoot, as you anticipate that MJF – full name Maxwell Jacob Friedman – would not be allowed to get away with such language towards one of the company’s lead figures.
Either way, however, AEW have added even more fuel to the fire, possibly in an attempt to blur the lines between reality and storyline further – if this is indeed a storyline.
AEW remove MJF from roster, pull merchandise
As per a tweet by WrestlingNews, Friedman has been removed from the current AEW roster on their official website. A further look at the website suggests this wasn’t simply a technical glitch because MJF is still not on the roster page as of Friday morning.
However, what is more interesting is that MJF’s merchandise has been pulled from the official AEW shop.
When users search for MJF’s name, they are shown a 404 error code. That means fans cannot currently buy any of MJF’s merchandise. However, the popularity and attention from fans towards the current storyline may outweigh those financial benefits anyway. The 26-year-old is, though, one of the most popular wrestlers in the company.
Will MJF leave AEW?
Whilst most fans believe that this is a worked shoot rather than a legitimate angle at this point, it is worth noting that both MJF and Khan have had issues over MJF’s contract and pay compared to former WWE stars.
Friedman has stated on multiple occasions that he will go where the money is when his current contract expires in 2024.
Now, it is a question of whether the pair have smoothed things over to some degree. If they have, and this is indeed all in the storyline, it has got plenty of eyes on AEW. And for MJF, his wrestling star continues to rise, with one of the most incredible promos of all time.
