Many fans have questioned how exactly Nemanja Matic managed to escape a red card after kneeing Vladimir Coufal in the nuts last night.
Manchester United played host to West Ham on Wednesday in what proved to be another dramatic evening of action between the two sides who had met just three days earlier. While United were able to escape with all three points in the capital, the Hammers were the ones who came out on top in the Carabao Cup thanks to an early Manuel Lanzini goal combined with some resolute defending.
Matic gets lucky
Alas, while the Red Devils would’ve liked to progress, they’ll probably count themselves lucky that things didn’t get even worse when Matic seemingly clocked Coufal with a move we’re more used to seeing in WWE than on a football pitch.
The midfielder knocked the ball out of play and proceeded to lift his knee up and strike Coufal in the groin. If the latter had made more of a meal of it then perhaps things would’ve been different but in many ways, that just sums up what’s wrong with the “pantomime” nature of football these days.
Everyone could see how careless it was but because it was at Old Trafford, it didn’t garner the kind of fan reaction that it probably should’ve.
The mistake didn’t actually wind up costing West Ham all too much as they did manage to go on and win the game, but you can bet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would’ve seen or heard about the outcry and protests in the wake of the incident.
