New Balance releases limited edition Costa Rica centenary shirt

Celebrating 100 years since the first federated football in the country, New Balance has unveiled a limited edition shirt for the Costa Rican national side.

Costa Rica celebrated the milestone on June 13, and the gorgeous new shirt was debuted during Sunday’s game between the Costa Rican and Guatemalan women’s teams at the National Stadium.

A deep blue colourway pays homage to the colours used by the first national representation that was formed to play a Central American tournament in Guatemala, in 1921.

Rodolfo Villalobos, President of the Costa Rican Football Federation, assured that this clothing is an essential component in the celebrations for the hundred years. “We are very pleased to present the official Centennial shirt, which combines valuable elements such as the historical richness of our football and our attachment to the conservation of nature, a value that is rooted in the Costa Rican people and in our organization.”

The shirt keeps in-line with Costa Rica’s and New Balances’ drive for sustainability, partially made using recycled materials.

The men’s team will also use this design during the next Gold Cup, to be held in the United States in July.

So far, it seems the jersey is only available to purchase online in Costa Rica, through the local New Balance website.
