He also has a stacked list of trophies won. It includes five Champions League titles, three Premier League titles and Euro 2016. On an individual level, Ronaldo has been the recipient of five Ballon d’Or awards.

But we can now (almost) add another record to the collection of Cristiano Ronaldo: the number of fake followers he has on social media.
How many fake followers does Cristiano Ronaldo have?
According to new research from Sortlist, Ronaldo’s follower count is currently made up of 24 per cent of fake followers.
That statistic ranks him eighth when it comes to sports stars with the highest percentage of fake followers.
Tennis legend Venus Williams tops the list, with 26% of her 1.4 million Instagram followers regarded as fake. Former American basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shares the top spot.
When it comes to Ronaldo, the 36-year-old has around 355 million Instagram followers. No other sportsperson has more. He has approximately 85 million fake followers, with 76% of his audience rated as credible followers.
Which other high-profile players have lots of fake followers?

According to the research, Karim Benzema, Harry Kane and Gareth Bale are other footballers with hordes of fake followers.
Benzema’s Instagram page, which has 42.8 million followers, has a following of a total of 25% of suspicious accounts. That ranks the Frenchman joint third on the overall list of sportspeople.
Alongside him is Kane, who has 11.8 million Instagram followers. Bale, meanwhile, is followed by a slightly lower 24% of suspicious accounts among his 45.3 million sized following.
Which sports teams have the most fake followers?

Perhaps surprisingly, according to the research, Leicester City is the sports team with the highest percentage of fake followers. Suspicious accounts make up a total of 32% of their 5.8 million Instagram followers.
Behind them in second are West Ham United. They have 30% of suspicious accounts among their 1.8 million following.
Basketball team New York Knicks (29% fake followers) are third, along with the German national football team.
How does fake follower research work?
Fake follower research is generally completed by AI software or algorithms. It analyses accounts using several factors, including their activities, followed-following ratios, profile pictures and more.
Therefore, any audit will likely be close to, but not exactly, 100% accurate.
Judging fake followers is not an exact science. Some of the accounts that fall into some of the ‘fake’ categories may be legitimate.
