Newcastle United takeover could be completed today

Newcastle fans are ready to pop the champagne with recent reports indicating the Saudi-backed takeover of the club could be completed today.

Over the course of the last few years one of the primary complaints from the St James’ Park faithful has been that Mike Ashley’s ownership is harming the long-term future of the club.

The process of following the Magpies in the city of Newcastle resembles something religious as opposed to just being about football with fans flocking to the ground week in and week out despite some of the troubles they’ve endured.

A while back it seemed as if the Saudi-led consortium that was hoping to take over would be left empty-handed due to an ongoing legal dispute that involved the Premier League and broadcaster beIN Sports. However, with that issue now seemingly resolved, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) can proceed with the expectation being that they’ll own an 80% stake in Newcastle United Football Club.

A new chapter

There have been plenty of questions raised regarding the morality of this takeover and whether or not it’s an ethical move but right now, Geordies up and down the land will be opting to hear the words “Mike Ashley is leaving” above all else.

The speculation regarding what this will mean for NUFC moving forward has been endless, but the popular opinion seems to be that it could vault them back into being top six contenders after years of struggling through numerous relegation battles.

If it all goes through, there’s bound to be one hell of an ovation when Newcastle host Tottenham after the international break on October 17.
