Pepe gets steward involved in manic celebrations after Ronaldo scores

When Cristiano Ronaldo scored his dramatic late winner against Ireland last night, it’s safe to say the celebrations were pretty wild.

It came at the end of an insanely exciting World Cup qualifier that featured just about everything we look for as fans of the beautiful game. CR7 missed a penalty, the Irish took a surprise lead before half-time, and then Ronaldo made up for his error from the spot with a late brace to seal all three points for the 2016 European champions.

Portugal pull it off

The stadium went into a state of absolute bedlam when Ronaldo struck in the 96th minute and in the midst of all the excitement, veteran defender Pepe couldn’t contain himself with a hilarious moment of adulation alongside one of the stewards.

The supporters inside the ground saw history being made as Cristiano became the all-time top goalscorer in men’s international football, with this particular moment highlighting just how much it still means for fans to watch their national team – and national hero – succeed.

The comeback win takes Portugal onto 10 points from their opening four games and even though it wasn’t an overly convincing performance, they’re now in pole position to qualify automatically for next year’s World Cup.

Speaking of that tournament, the Portuguese will get a taste of what the 2022 hosts have to offer when they face Qatar this Saturday.
