Virgil van Dijk shoves away fan so he can complete interview

Liverpool and Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk was seen pushing away an over-eager fan as he completed an interview whilst on international duty.

The 30-year-old had just played the full 90 minutes as Netherlands drew 1-1 with Norway in World Cup qualifying.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the Norwegians on 20 minutes, before ex-Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen equalised shortly before half-time.

The result means Netherlands stay second in Group G on seven points, with group leaders Turkey being held by Montenegro.

After the game, van Dijk was on press duty, and encountered a fan who was desperate to meet him – so much so that he charged onto the pitch.

Van Dijk can then be seen carefully pushing away the intruder, who looked like he was trying to hug him, so that he can complete the interview.

It was an eventful night for the centre-back, who suffered a dislocated finger just minutes into the second half.

However, he had the finger put back in place by the medical staff, and went on to complete the match.

The 1-1 draw was his first appearance in Dutch colours for almost a year.

He suffered an ACL injury whilst playing for Liverpool against Everton back in October 2020. Subsequently, he missed the rest of the season.

Van Dijk has started each of Liverpool’s three Premier League games thus far this season.

He kept a clean sheet in the opening two games as the Reds defeated Norwich and Burnley 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
