Pictures emerge showing Colby Covington with chipped tooth after Masvidal attack

Images have circulated online showing Colby Covington with a chipped tooth due to Jorge Masvidal’s street attack earlier in the year.

In March 2022, the pair made headlines for a shocking incident outside of the octagon. Masvidal allegedly punched Covington twice outside of a restaurant in Miami. As a result of the attack, Masvidal was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief. He has pleaded not guilty.

All this stemmed from the pair’s sanctioned welterweight matchup that headlined UFC 272. The build-up to the fight was bitter between the former training partners; Covington often trash-talked about Masvidal’s family in pre-fight pressers.

Fast forward to their battle at UFC 272, where Covington backed up his talk. ‘Chaos’ took control of the fight on his way to a unanimous decision victory. However, where usually two fighters embrace or show respect to one another at the end of a match, the welterweights did not. Some bad blood still lingered, leading to the Miami incident.

Now, images of the aftermath of the assault are out for public viewing.

Colby Covington with a broken tooth

TMZ Sports released photos detailing the damage that Covington sustained following the attack. One of the welterweight’s front teeth is chipped in said images. Furthermore, the UFC star has a red right cheek – suggesting Covington was hit on that side.

Masvidal’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, filed these images to help Gamebred’s defence against his criminal charges. Covington alleged that he suffered ‘brain injuries’ from the assault. This led to a request for an independent medical check.

“Interestingly, the images do not demonstrate an injury aside from a small chip in C.C.’s [Colby Covington] fake tooth,” wrote Masvidal’s attorney, per MMA Fighting. “The evidence thus far clearly contradicts C.C.’s allegations.

“C.C. claims that [the] Defendant hit him from behind. Exclusive footage shows that during the incident, C.C. was facing the individual he identified as Defendant.”

Cohen also questioned Covington’s ‘brain injury’ claims in the report.

“Given that the alleged injury is not only vague, but the victim here is a professional fighter, the undersigned notes that a mental examination may be needed due to the ambiguity of the allegations. A mental examination may also be required to address if C.C. is competent to proceed in this matter or if he is rendered incompetent due to the nature of his ‘brain injury.’”

Despite this new evidence, Masvidal is not in the clear. If found guilty, Gamebred could face up to 15 years in prison plus a fine of up to $10,000.

Masvidal’s court order

A judge placed a stay-away order on Jorge Masvidal as the wider investigation is ongoing. With this, Gamebred cannot be within 25 feet of Colby Covington.

He is also not allowed to communicate with his fellow UFC star in any capacity. This includes social media or via a third party. Per the court order, he must stay at least 500 feet away from Covington’s home too.

Although Masvidal and Covington both live in Miami, this strict order will mean that they avoid each other.

With regards to the attack case, Masvidal will return to court on May 12th. However, whether Gamebred actually goes on trial or not remains to be seen.
