Referee drops to his knees after not playing advantage

A referee in the Danish second division has been videoed dropping to his knees during a game after not playing the advantage.

The match, between Vendsyssel and FC Fredericia, saw referee Nils Heer fail to play the advantage for the visitors after a foul.

As he blew his whistle, though, a Fredericia forward can be seen running through on goal, set to be one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

The decision therefore prevented the visitors what could have been a goalscoring opportunity.

In fairness to Heer, though, he quickly realised his mistake.

As soon as he spotted the forward in a goalscoring position, he put his hands over his head before dropping to his knees in disappointment.

Instead of being surrounded by Fredericia players, there was generally an air of acceptance that he had just made a genuine mistake.

It was a rare show of honesty from a match official – many of whom tend not to allow their emotions show within the squared circle.

And Heer was given plenty of praise on social media.

Luckily for Fredericia, they did find the equaliser eight minutes later in a game that ended 1-1.

Forward Christian Tue Jensen found the net on 36 minutes. It was his second goal of the season.

The 21-year-old was on loan at now Premier League side Brentford two seasons ago. However, he failed to make a first team appearance.

Tue Jensen helped his side maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Fredericia sit second in the Danish tier with 14 points from six games. Vendsyssel, meanwhile, are without a win in eighth place.
