To honour the career of one of the greatest WWE superstars in history, Rey Mysterio will rightfully receive his place in the Hall of Fame.
In a sport where one build typically reigned supreme, ‘The Biggest Little Man in the WWE’ proved that with the right amount of talent, anyone can succeed. Possessing incredible likability, the proverbial underdog won the hearts of fans around the globe, exciting everyone with his astonishing fighting spirit and unrivalled high-flying ability in the ring.
Why does Rey Mysterio deserve his place in the WWE Hall of Fame?
Renowned for his devastating 619, the icon overcame the odds on numerous occasions. In possibly his most famous moment, he triumphed in the 2006 Royal Royal Rumble. Pulling off an incredible upset, he launched Randy Orton over the top rope to bag his place in the main event of Wrestlemania.
Continuing his incredible run, he produced an awe-inspiring performance to win the World Heavyweight Championship, by pinning Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle.
The victory solidified Mysterio’s place among the best to ever do it — but he was far from done. ‘The Master of the 619’ picked up the heavyweight title again, finishing Jack Swagger in an epic Fatal-4-Way.
In addition, he claimed the WWE strap after beating The Miz in the final of an epic tournament.
In an illustrious career, he’s engaged in a plethora of iconic storylines. Most iconically, he went to war with Eddie Guerrero over his son Dominik Mysterio.
Following an intense rivalry, the 5 ft 7 superstar emerged victorious in a ladder match to win custody of the boy. However, he had no way of knowing the monster his child would become.
At Clash of the Castle, Dominik betrayed his father, creating all the ingredients for yet another epic storyline. And with the family name on the line, Mysterio needs to put the youngster in his place. However, doing that will be easier said than done.
