Ric Flair confirms Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal as last opponents in bloody promo

Ric Flair has announced that he will face Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal in his final wrestling match on July 31 – and used a set of promo videos to confirm the news.

In the match, Flair will team up with his son-in-law and current AEW wrestler, Andrade El Idolo. Andrade is married to WWE star Charlotte Flair.

The match, which has opted for the easily memorable title of ‘Ric Flair’s Last Match’ for promotional purposes, will take place at Starrcast V on July 30.

The 73-year-old has not wrestled since 2011. There have also been serious concerns about his health from within the wrestling community. Aside from his age, Flair is fitted with a pacemaker. He also takes blood thinning medication.

Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has confirmed that the ‘Nature Boy’ is currently suffering from a foot injury.

Regardless, Flair is ploughing on with the match. On Tuesday, he confirmed the identity of his opponents and tag partner in two official promotional videos. It’s an interesting watch, to say the least.

Flair announces Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal as opponents

Posted on Starrcast’s official website, the first of two promotional videos delves deeper into the reasons why Flair decided to wrestle again. It also features short interview clips from some of Flair’s former opponents. They include Shawn Michaels and Booker T.

There is an extended segment with one of Flair’s final opponents, Jay Lethal. The AEW wrestler has been Flair’s trainer. The ‘Nature Boy’ recently posted clips on social media showing him wrestling with Lethal.

We then hear that July 31 has been dedicated as ‘Ric Flair Day’ in Nashville, which is where the match will take place. There is a press conference involving Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett, before the camera cuts to outside the building, where Flair is met by Lethal.

As pretty much everyone expected, Lethal then attacks the wrestling legend, before Jarrett arrives on the scene to pull him away. Flair then turns on Jarrett, who starts a beatdown. The 66-year-old then hits Flair with a blunt instrument, causing blood to pour from his head.

That sets the scene for Andrade’s introduction, with Flair emphasising the word ‘family’.

Jarrett will be in Nashville throughout the weekend. He is the special guest referee for the WWE Tag Team Championship match between The Usos and The Street Profits at SummerSlam.

There are also several other matches on the card for Starrcast V. Former WWE NXT Champion Karrion Kross, with Scarlett Bordeaux, will take on Davey Boy Smith Jr (the former WWE Tag Team Champion, David Hart Smith). A number of IMPACT stars will also compete.
