Eric Djemba-Djemba reveals how Rio Ferdinand nearly tricked him into annoying Roy Keane
When Eric Djemba-Djemba arrived at Manchester United he had no idea that Rio Ferdinand was such a prankster. Thus, when the defender asked him to do something that seemed completely innocent, he gladly went along with it, completely unaware that Roy Keane would’ve been very angry had another player not come to his rescue.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Betinia NJ, the Cameroonian reminisced: “Rio Ferdinand likes to make fun. I remember the first thing he said to me was, ‘Come on Eric, sit here’, and it was Roy Keane’s place, and I didn’t know. I was sitting there and Gary Neville was laughing in the dressing room because I didn’t know what had happened. Fabian Barthez said, ‘No Eric, it’s a joke go and sit next to Mikael Silvestre‘. Rio Ferdinand was funny that day.”

While Djemba-Djemba was mocked by Ferdinand on his first day in the locker room, he quickly made a mark at the club.
The midfielder earned the respect of the fans for his relentless will to win, that often resulted in him making brutal tackles.
On one occasion, he put in a challenge that supporters still remember to this day.
During a clash with Arsenal, Djemba-Djemba left Arsene Wenger raging after a horrific tackle on a legend.
