Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he has spoken with Raphael Varane regarding his potential move to Manchester United.
Over the course of the last few months we’ve heard a lot about the potential transfer dealings of the Red Devils in the summer window. From Jadon Sancho to Eduardo Camavinga and beyond, Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are hoping to put their best foot forward with the intention being to challenge for the Premier League title once again.
One name that continues to be brought up time and time again is Raphael Varane – the star Real Madrid defender who has been turning heads ever since he first broke onto the scene as a teenager.
The 28-year-old has won everything there is to win with Los Blancos and also has a World Cup to his name with France, emphasising his position as one of the most successful defenders of his generation.
Now, he’s been heavily linked with United, a team that played host to his hero Rio Ferdinand for many years.
During a recent Q&A on Instagram, Rio was asked about possibly messaging Varane regarding a switch to Old Trafford this summer.
“Already have done – Agent Ferdy”.
There’s no way to know for sure whether or not he’s actually sent Varane a message but it’s hard not to believe that this rumour has some real weight behind it.
All signs seem to be pointing towards a deal being edged over the finish line sooner rather than later, and with Les Bleus being knocked out of Euro 2020, it appears as if there’s nothing standing in the way of either club.
Ferdinand will now be focused on his part in the coverage for England vs Denmark tomorrow, whereas Manchester United will commence their new Premier League campaign against rivals Leeds United on August 14.
