Rory McIlroy net worth: How much has the golf superstar earned?

As one of this generation’s most well-known and successful golfers, Rory McIlroy has accumulated a large net worth from his career.

Recently, the Northern Irishman has made headlines for his open opposition to the controversial LIV Golf Invitational Series. Although not criticising his fellow players for joining the league, he suggested that the main appeal of LIV Golf was the money.

“Obviously, money is a deciding factor in a lot of things in this world,” said McIlroy. “But if it’s purely for money it never seems to go the way you want it to.

“It’s not something I would do personally. But I certainly understand why some of the guys have gone, and it’s something we are all just going to keep an eye on and see what happens over these next few weeks.”

Instead, McIlroy stayed on the more traditional PGA Tour. Last weekend, he picked up his 21st Tour win by successfully defending the RBC Canadian Open title. He beat Tony Finau by two strokes after holding his nerve on a tight final day.

The Northern Irishman’s victory is yet another trophy to add to his impressive career.

Career achievements

As mentioned earlier, Rory McIlroy has taken 21 PGA Tour wins since his debut in 2007. His most successful year was 2012, where he won four events on Golf’s flagship tour.

Additionally, McIlroy has tasted success in Majors. He is a four-time Major winner – however, he has not won one since 2014.

Despite this, McIlroy has two PGA Championships, a US Open, and an Open title to his name. Sadly, at 13 appearances and counting, the iconic Masters green jacket still eludes him.

With many wins and over 100 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy has unsurprisingly built a net worth of millions. He added to it last weekend – the Canadian Open victory earned him over $1.5 million in prize money.

Rory McIlroy: What is his net worth?

Celebrity Net Worth put the personal value of Rory McIlroy at a staggering $170 million in 2022. Like most golfers, this comes from a combination of winnings, appearance fees, and endorsements.

According to Golf Monthly, McIlroy has made around $84 million in career earnings from the PGA Tour and FedEx Cup alone. To add to this, the European Tour has netted the Northern Irishman a further $41 million.

McIlroy is also not opposed to playing in one-off tournaments, where he reportedly earns around $2 million per appearance.

However, endorsements make up a large part of the golfer’s income. He has sponsorship deals with some huge brands, including Nike, Taylormade, Omega, and NBC. Incredibly, Business Insider claim the Northern Irishman’s Nike deal is worth up to $200 million in total. They also say that his sponsors make McIlroy $34 million annually.

As a result, Forbes estimate that McIlroy takes home $41.5 million a year from his multiple paying avenues.

Charity support

Using his status as one of golf’s best-known players, McIlroy supports a number of charitable causes. For example, he became a UNICEF ambassador in 2011. Also, according to looktothestars.org, he supports the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Small Steps project.

The star also used to have his own charity, the Rory Foundation. He donated prize money to his charity on multiple occasions, aiming to support other children’s charities in their work.

The charity closed in 2019, as McIlroy sought to make a difference through personal endeavours.
