Roy Jones Jr. says James Toney shouldn’t have tried to copy him
On November 18, 1994, Roy Jones Jr. challenged James Toney for the IBF super middleweight world championship, inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
In a truly spectacular display, ‘RJJ’ showcased his brilliance, dancing rings around ‘Lights Out’, landing spectacular combinations, en route to claiming a unanimous decision victory.
And according to the victor, his rival’s undoing was attempting to mimic his moves.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, the superstar explained: “I knew that him copying me was not going to work, so when I saw him copying me, I said, ‘Ok, let me see if he’ll copy this’, he copied it and that changed the whole fight.”

While he has his own fighter on the card, Jones Jr. is also extremely excited about the heavyweight main event between Emanuel Odiase and Nick Webb.
And if the German can overcome his British rival, the four-weight world champion would love to see him go head-to-head with Moses Itauma in a blockbuster showdown.
The 57-year-old beamed: “That definitely could be a fight down the line. So, we’ll wait and see what happens, because I definitely think that’s where he’s heading.”
