The rumour linking Saul Niguez to Liverpool has strengthened in recent days, while the midfielder’s previous comments about the club certainly provide a small indication of his desire to play at Anfield.
The Spain international has been a key target to the Reds, according to AS as per MailOnline, with his current club, Atletico Madrid needing to free up funds.
The report claims that last season’s La Liga winners, Atleti, are willing to offers around the €40million (£35m) mark for the 26-year-old.
Meanwhile, comments about the club via Saul have come back into fruition.
Before his current side faced Jurgen Klopp’s men in Champions League last-16 tie in 2020, he said to the Daily Mail.
“They all run and press and they manage it so well because it’s not just running for the sake of running.
“It’s very well organised. If [Mohamed] Salah goes wide, then Henderson comes inside, if someone else goes inside, someone else goes outside.
“And maybe some people don’t rate Henderson as highly as [Georginio] Wijnaldum, (Naby) Keita or Fabinho but I think he is the one that brings that team together,” he continued.
“Henderson does that so-called dirty work that Gabi [Fernandez] used to do for us, that I have to do, that Koke does. He is an example in so many facets of the game.”
The sale of Saul
Saul’s agent, Joshua Barnett, recently talked about the midfielder’s future amid the recent rumours.
“Nothing has been decided, Saul has as many options to stay as to leave,” he said to Diario AS.
“Saul will do with his future what is best for Saul.”
The comments don’t give much away, but what’s even more telling is the player’s recent words to fans during a training session. He made the extraordinary claim that his club, Atletico Madrid, are trying to kick him out of this transfer window.
He was heard saying: “They’re [Atletico] kicking me out of here, man.”
