Sir Alex Ferguson has said that concentration is the main reason behind Luke Shaw’s improvement this season, current Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has revealed.
Shaw was named United’s Players’ Player of the Year at their annual awards ceremony last week after a superb individual campaign.
He provided five assists from left back and scored in the 2-0 Derby win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium back in February.
The 25-year-old has been excellent both in defence and attack for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side, and was named in England boss Gareth Southgate‘s provisional Euro 2020 squad this afternoon.
Maguire reveals Ferguson comments
Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville, Maguire said that both himself and Shaw had spoken with Ferguson, with the legendary manager using one word as the main reason for the left-back’s progress.

Maguire said: “I saw him [Ferguson] a couple of weeks ago, I was with Luke Shaw, and we were speaking to him about it.
“He was asking Luke about how well he’s progressed this season, and he said the main thing that’s progressed for you is concentration.
“Then, as he was leaving, he said bye and then turned round and said to me and Luke: ‘concentration’, and walked off.
In reponse to a separate question about the left-backs he has played alongside, he added: “I’ve been fortunate enough to play with some great left-backs.
“If Luke’s doing well there must be some parts of my game which are doing well as well.
“I think the gaffer [Solskjaer] has got to take a lot of credit for what’s he done to Luke and made him believe that he should be playing and he can go on to be one of the best left-backs around.”
Shaw said back in March that Solskjaer’s man-management is “second to none“, and credited the Norwegian for helping him to find his best form.
