Football’s relationship with money is an extremely complicated one, especially now as we’re beginning to see the smaller clubs pay the ultimate price of the global pandemic.
With that being said, the insane numbers that are thrown around on a regular basis probably aren’t going to change too drastically any time soon.
Manchester City’s European ban for ‘breaching’ FFP rules being overturned was the clearest indication yet, that there really isn’t a fit and proper set of regulations to manage the money that is passed around the game.
That means the valuations of individual players is still eye-watering, the folks at Transfermarkt have attempted to put those numbers into some perspective, by releasing a list of the Premier League’s most valuable names.
The Premier League’s 20 most valuable players
20. Timo Werner, Chelsea – £57.6 million
19. Heung-min Son, Tottenham – £57.6 million
18. Rodri, Manchester City – £57.6 million
17. Andy Robertson, Liverpool – £57.6 million
16. Dele Alli, Tottenham – £57.6 million
15. Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United – £63 million
14. Roberto Firmino, Liverpool – £64.8 million
13. Alisson, Liverpool – £64.8 million
12. Paul Pogba, Manchester United – £72 million

11. Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool – £72 million

3. Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City – £108 million
2. Mohamed Salah, Liverpool – £108 million
1. Raheem Sterling, Manchester City – £115.2 million
Any big surprises? Van Dijk not making the top ten is a little unusual, Kevin de Bruyne may feel a little unfortunate not to take the top spot too – though it’s quite easy to see why Raheem tops the list.
