With a concrete date set, we’re beginning to learn more about Floyd Mayweather’s divisive showdown with Logan Paul and the numbers involved with the bout.
This fight was initially scheduled to take place back in February but now, it’s scheduled to go down on June 6. The fee for the PPV event will be a hefty $49.99 for fans wanting to tune in.
Floyd Mayweather really is “money”
During a recent appearance on the Disruptive Entrepreneur podcast, Mayweather spoke about what he could stand to receive after squaring off against Paul.
“I can fight a fighter right now and I can guarantee myself $35million (£25m).” he said. “I can eventually probably make $50million (£36m), for just a regular fight.” He explained.
“Or me and Logan Paul can go out, entertain, have fun and make nine figures $100million (£72m) or more.”
“Everybody thinks that ‘retired’ means at home with your feet up and picking up weight. I prefer to go out, still entertain and have fun.
“Just because I still go out, entertain and have fun doesn’t mean that I still wanna fight for 12 rounds.
“I think we’ve got a six-round exhibition. I think it’s gonna be very entertaining for the people, I think people are gonna love it. $35million for 12 rounds or $100million for six rounds – big difference.”
Mayweather is “retired” from pro boxing with his last official fight coming against Conor McGregor in 2017. Despite a spirited effort from the Irishman, ‘Money’ ran out the comfortable winner as anticipated.
As for Logan Paul, his one and only professional fight was a decision loss to British YouTube star KSI.
Paul recently took to his Impaulsive podcast to create some discussion over the fees.
“Everyone wants to know about the money for this fight. Everyone wants to know what got Floyd to take this fight, was it the money?” he said. “I’ll say this, you’re way off with your estimates, and you’ll never know.
“I’d probably would have done this fight for free. It’s an iconic opportunity, this is some legacy s***. I’d have done this for free.
“This is the coolest thing in the world. I get to grace the ring with one of the best boxers of all time and attempt to take his head off.
“But I didn’t take it for free, I’m going to make a good amount.”
Say what you will about these guys, but they both know what’s best for their respective business interests.
With the $49.99 price tag you won’t just get the event itself, but you’ll also receive a limited & exclusive Mayweather vs Paul fight t-shirt. Plus, 20 winners will get a video meet & greet with both fighters.
