Thomas Tuchel and the FA had an agreement in place to part ways on good terms.
Despite leading England to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the manager has come under fire for his defensive tactics in a 2-1 defeat to Argentina.
Thomas Tuchel and the FA could’ve parted ways if England lost in the Last 16
According to The Athletic, Thomas Tuchel and the FA could’ve gone their separate ways had England lost before the quarter-finals.
Both the manager and the governing body, would have been entitled to a massive amount of compensation had the other backed out of their relationship.
In order to continue managing ‘The Thee Lions’, the German has dismissed interest from Manchester United. He’s currently on a significant amount of money to lead the English into battle.
WOW: Why didn’t Pep Guardiola become England manager despite having a deal in place?
When it came to light that England could have to face Mexico in the North American side’s stomping ground at the Azteca Stadium, where prior to the tournament they’d only lost twice since 1966, both parties agreed to make an exemption, where if they’d have lost the game, either side would’ve been entitled to walk away.
Had the FA decided to move on, then Tuchel would’ve received compensation, and had the gaffer made the call that he’d had enough, then the governing body would’ve been compensated.
However, England won the fixture, before progressing past Norway as well. Now, despite Jamie O’Hara calling for Tuchel to be sacked, the 52-year-old is determined to guide his side into victory at the next major tournament.
He said: “We keep on going with the contract until the home Euros.
“I’m looking forward to that even though right now it’s difficult to look that far ahead.
“A lot of big football nations are eliminated before the semi-final, so it is an achievement.
“No one wants to hear that at the moment; me neither because we demand the most of ourselves. That’s just the nature of being competitive.”
