The stats that show how Declan Rice is one of the Premier League’s best midfielders

The last few years have served as a pretty incredible rise to prominence for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

The Hammers’ vice-captain has worked his way up through the ranks and now, he’s considered to be one of the best players in the Premier League – as well as one of the most important figures for the England national team.

His precision and work ethic have been consistently highlighted as vital pieces of the puzzle in his game and even though there’s constant speculation surrounding his future, West Ham fans aren’t going to be all too bothered for the time being. Instead, they’ll be focusing on what looks set to be a really promising campaign both domestically and in Europe.

Just how good is Declan Rice?

There are many folks who watch the top flight of English football on a weekly basis and in doing so, they collect data that helps us to better understand how some of the peak performers do what they do on the pitch.

As you can see in Statman Dave’s latest work, Rice has the most passes into the final third as well as the most carries into the final third of any central midfielder in the league. Between that and the wonderful solo goal he scored in the Europa League, it’s no wonder that he’s the first name on the teamsheet for this flourishing West Ham side.

Those in the “big six” are bound to be keeping an eye on him in the months to come but until that transfer window opens, West Ham can sit back and enjoy watching Rice do his thing.
