UK’s Jai Herbert secures first UFC win with brilliant finish

Wolverhampton’s own Jai Herbert sealed his first UFC win in style over the weekend with a TKO triumph against Khama Worthy.

“The Black Country Banger” has been touted as one to watch for a few years now ever since he managed to capture the Cage Warriors lightweight title. The 33-year-old was finally given his chance to shine in the UFC last year but after a knockout defeat to Francisco Trinaldo and a submission loss to Renato Moicano, many began to wonder whether or not he’d find success in the promotion.

Then, on Saturday night, he made a real statement by finishing Khama Worthy with a wonderful combination that really proved why he’s viewed as such a lethal striker.

Jai Herbert – a true fan favourite

The Midlands star, who is also a huge Wolves fan, proceeded to jump on the mic after the bout and cut a great promo during his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping.

The next step will be for him to get back inside the octagon as and when he’s ready but given he has a 1-2 UFC record, it’s important to be realistic about who his next opponent will be.

A top 15 contender seems unlikely but regardless of who he’s standing across the cage from, Jai Herbert is going to be in the mix for a finish – whether it’s in the opening 15 seconds or 30 seconds before the final horn sounds.

The Midlands’ biggest UFC name, Leon Edwards, will attempt to replicate this kind of showing when he takes on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269 later this year.
