Vinicius Junior is in a difficult position at Real Madrid, with his future at the club not looking overly promising.
While incredibly talented, the Brazilian is struggling at the Bernabéu this season.
Real Madrid could start Yan Diomandé over Vinicius Junior
Throughout the summer transfer window, Vinicius Junior was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. However, while ‘The Gunners’ would’ve loved to have given the gifted footballer an opportunity to showcase his skills in the Premier League, they ultimately couldn’t get the deal over the line, with the natural-born goal scorer remaining at Real Madrid.
But despite staying at the club at which he’s made his name, Vinicius has struggled to hit the ground running in the 2026/27 campaign, and it has put his place in the starting XI at risk.
WOW: Ronaldo Nazario had more ‘quality’ than Cristiano Ronaldo, claimed former Real Madrid star
According to Cadena SER, Yan Diomandé is on the cusp of taking his teammate’s spot in the side.
The disparity in their performances was on full display during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win against Elche. The La Liga giants looked in cruise control after securing a 2-0 lead in the first half, before conceding twice themselves. During stoppage time, Carlos Espi found the winner, but it was certainly a worrying turn of events for Madrid fans.
During the game, Diomande impressed with his performance, while Vinicius failed to deliver.
Vinicius Junior needs to turn things around quickly at Real Madrid
Following the match, journalist Tomas Roncero opened up about the situation at the club.
He said: “Beware of the threat posed by Diomande, who played well on the right today and even better on the left.
“I’ve said it, and I suppose Vinicius’s people will be angry as always because here, no matter how much affection you show someone, they don’t realise that at Real Madrid, when someone isn’t playing so well, you have to say so, otherwise it wouldn’t be Real Madrid.”
