Penicuik Athletic vs Hawick Royal Albert descended into chaos when Paul Tansey appeared to confront a fan.

The crowd in attendance at the Scottish Cup First Preliminary Round tie got far more than they bargained for.

Paul Tansey seemingly went for a fan

Paul Tansey of Hawick Royal Albert football club was embroiled in a very dramatic situation during his side’s clash with Penicuik Athletic.

After being substituted off in the 88th minute, the player seemingly jumped into the crowd, with his sights appearing to be set on one spectator in particular. Upon getting up close to his target, an argument ensued. Rushing to the aid of the fan, another member of the crowd attempted to intervene, preventing the pair from potentially coming to blows. Tansey received a red card from the referee.

His side ended up losing 2-1 following extra-time, with Darren Healy scoring the all-important winning goal. Penicuik included the shocking moment during a highlights package on its YouTube page. Footage capturing the event has since gone viral on social media.

During the match, the club posted on X: “88’ | RED CARD for Hawick’s Paul Tansey, who as he is being substituted, takes his shirt off and jumps into the stand to go for a supporter.”

Following the match, Penicuik Athletic’s manager, Ryan Harding, exclaimed: “The whole carry-on that happened, I think we were a wee bit taken aback. What was happening sort of left us a bit stunned, like the whole carry-on with a red card and what happened.”
