Why Marcos Maidana has a necklace with Floyd Mayweather’s tooth on it

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and Marcos ‘El Chino’ Maidana fought each other twice in 2014 – but the Argentinian has always claimed that he took home a bizarre memento from their second encounter.

Mayweather is one of the greats. His unbeaten record of 50-0 speaks for itself, and he has defeated some of boxing’s biggest stars.

Despite being the underdog, Maidana inflicted pain on the legendary boxer in the second encounter between the two.

The first time the duo met in the ring, Mayweather narrowly defeated Maidana. But it was the second fight that got people talking.

In the second fight, Maidana was once again the underdog, and the boxing legend eventually ran out a convincing winner via unanimous decision. But in the third round, the American was severely hurt by his Argentinian counterpart.

Ducking and weaving, Mayweather managed to withstand a barrage of hits from Maidana. Mayweather was struck by a solid right hand despite avoiding many of Maidana’s hits.

The American’s tooth appeared to fly out of his mouth, although he still claims to this day that he didn’t lose any teeth during the fight.

“No, He didn’t knock my teeth out. Not at all!” Mayweather said to Fight Hype. “He’s a strong guy, he’s a good puncher, but no, as far as my teeth missing, absolutely not.”

Following the fight, Maidana made a string of claims that he kept Mayweather’s tooth as a reminder of the night. The 50-0 boxer responded with images on social media to refute these claims, showing his teeth intact.

However, fans and critics did not believe Mayweather’s claims, and backed Maidana’s story.

Maidana remarkably had the tooth transformed into a necklace, fixing it on a chain as a trophy of that night in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Nevada.

According to reports, the Argentinian claimed that he kept the tooth as a souvenir of one of his most famous nights as a boxer.

A video posted on social media shows the team of ‘El Chino’ boasting about his souvenir. Eight years after the bout, Maidana remains proud of the damage he inflicted on Mayweather that evening.
