William Saliba made a worrying comment about his back

Tonight, the world watched in complete and utter shock as France failed to deliver on the big stage. After just 20 minutes, Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the spot, before Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead, ultimately ending the road for the 2018 champions.

The heartbreak for the French side will undoubtedly be extremely tough to deal with. After all, this is a country that was expected to waltz to the final and pick up the trophy at a canter.

However, while it’s heartbreaking for every single player, and indeed, every French fan watching from back home, it’s a particularly tough pill to swallow for William Saliba.

After just 26 minutes, the Arsenal centre-back ended up on the floor after hurting his back. And by the sounds of it, things aren’t looking good.

As per French journalist, Julien Laurens, Saliba said: “My back is gone.”

It isn’t the first time the defender has had to deal with an injury of this ilk. The Frenchman missed a portion of the 2022-23 season, where his club narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League.

Now, just shy of three years on, the 25-year-old is having to deal with a similar issue. Throughout the competition, his back has proven to be a major problem. He’s missed days of training, and had to be rested during France vs Norway.

With a potential surgery around the corner, all he can do is hope that he can recover sooner rather than later.
