In a huge upset, the French were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering a 2-0 defeat.

With France and Spain both renowned as two of the greatest teams on the planet, on paper, the encounter between the talented sides looked almost guaranteed to create fireworks. However, it failed to deliver, with Didier Deschamps’ men crashing out of the competition with a lacklustre performance.

After Lucas Digne kicked Lamine Yamal, to give Mikel Oyarzabal the chance to convert from the spot, French fans hoped their side would burst into life. Alas, they failed to produce anything that looked remotely inspiring.

With the clock ticking away, in the second half, things went from bad to worse, when Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead.

Infuriated that his dream of becoming a 2x world champion was about to go up in smoke, Kylian Mbappe made a crazy decision. When Unai Simon picked up the ball, the Real Madrid man stormed into him, initially seeming to go in with his leg before, pushing the goalkeeper to the ground.

The moment summed up what had been a terrible day at the office, from the side fans thought was destined to lift the trophy.
