It has been confirmed that Universe Mode will be in WWE 2K22 – with one significant change to how it will work.
Universe Mode has been a staple of WWE games since its introduction as part of WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2011.
Here’s the lowdown on what we can expect from Universe Mode on WWE 2K22 and the one significant change:
What is Universe Mode?
In Universe Mode, gamers essentially take control of the entire WWE calendar. They decide which Superstars go on each brand and how many brands there are. They can also assign title belts – and create new ones. In every sense of the word, you are in charge of everything.
In the older games, players could choose from two preset options. That was either a promo or a match. The promo section would contain hundreds of preset phrases that could be used. Fans could instead enter their own subtitles to make each promo more authentic.
The end goal was to create rivalries, feuds and storylines that would shape your WWE Universe. You could even incorporate custom superstars to bring outside rivalries to the wrestling ring.
On WWE 2K20, Universe Mode underwent several changes. 2K improved the rivalry system. The company also added more match types. Although the game, on the whole, wasn’t particularly well-received, the standalone mode created a layer of complexity we hadn’t yet seen in previous editions.
The Superstar Mode in WWE 2K22
WWE 2K22 brings a new addition to the Universe Mode roster. Gamers can now play as their favourite WWE Superstar and guide them through the game mode.
The new mode will remind gamers of the Road to WrestleMania, which featured in past WWE games.
There is little information about this section of Universe Mode so far. We know that players can use one wrestler at a time. There is also the option to edit your chosen wrestler. Interestingly, the trailer shows Triple H dressed in a suit – hinting at a potential other element involved.
The mode is sure to excite fans. It creates a range of new possibilities within WWE 2K22 Universe Mode.
Are there any other WWE 2K22 Universe Mode additions to note?
As of yet, 2K have not announced any other changes to Universe Mode.
However, 2K creative director Lynell Jinks stated that the addition of Superstar Mode is the main change to the mode we will see this year.
He explained: “The one addition that we made this year was Superstar Mode, where you can choose a Superstar.
“To me, it’s like a player lock, where if I want to be AJ [Styles], and I’m just playing as AJ, I don’t care what else happens and I just want to experience that story… we have that as a new addition to Universe.”
When will WWE 2K22 be released?
With the latest developments, fans will undoubtedly anticipate the moment when they can play Universe Mode. WWE 2K22 will be the first new release in the series for nearly three years.
It will release on March 11. Fans, however, can play the game three days earlier with 2K Early Access. They need to pre-order the Deluxe Edition or the nWo 4-Life Edition to do this.
