Thiago Silva has been immensely popular amongst Chelsea fans since he joined the club in 2020 – and his latest comments will only serve to increase his level of support.
The Brazilian international moved to Stamford Bridge after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expired.
Signing the then 35-year-old was seen as a massive coup for the Blues. Silva won 23 trophies during his time at PSG. Upon his arrival at the French club in 2012, he was installed as club captain. The Brazil defender’s experience and exceptional defensive qualities were seen as vital in helping Chelsea progress.
In Silva’s first season with Chelsea, the club did precisely that. Although the Blues struggled for form in the first half of the season, resulting in the sacking of Frank Lampard, they comfortably progressed through their Champions League group with four wins and two draws.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea then made it to the final in Lisbon. They then defeated Manchester City 1-0 to lift their second Champions League trophy.
Unfortunately for Silva, he was forced off with an injury in the final. However, his performances throughout the season endeared him to Chelsea fans. His contract with the club currently runs until summer 2023, and, even at the age of 37, he shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
Thiago Silva has heartwarming comment for Chelsea fans
On Tuesday, Thiago Silva produced another imperious display during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Lille in their Champions League last 16 tie. As per Opta Joe, he recovered ball possession on 12 occasions – the most of his career in the competition.
The win puts Thomas Tuchel’s side in an excellent position to progress to the quarter-finals.
After his heroic display, Silva was full of praise for Chelsea fans for their support of him throughout his time at the club.
He told TNT Sports Brasil: “I feel like I’m living a dream here at Chelsea. I wasn’t expecting something like that.
“The fans are always singing my name… it’s magic. It’s a dream. I’m really proud to play here for Chelsea and their supporters.”
It isn’t the first time that Silva has spoken openly about his love for Chelsea and the fans.
After signing his new contract in January, he told the club’s official website: “I never imagined that I would live this experience in my career. I felt it a bit at Milan, also in Paris, but here it’s been like this since the first day.
“When you see the images of the fans chanting my name at the end of the Champions League final, even if I hadn’t played all the games because I’d been injured, for me it also feels like a recognition for everything that I’ve done.”
Chelsea fans will be hoping for many more impressive Thiago Silva displays this season and beyond as the club looks to add to the Club World Cup title they won earlier in February.
