WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is not a man who is ever short of words. And the Scottish Warrior has had plenty to say recently. Especially when it comes to the creative leadership of WWE.
The towering Glaswegian, now a four-time World Champion in WWE, has recently vented about 2K Games’ decision to emblazon their front cover for WWE 2K26 with CM Punk.
Both in front and behind WWE’s cameras, McIntyre and Punk get along about as well as Italians and chefs who add cream to their carbonara.
However, when it comes to 2K26’s other cover star, McIntyre was much more complimentary.
The WWE Champion owes some of his best lines to Triple H
While Punk adorns the cover of 2K26, three further special editions will be released this year. The Monday Night Wars edition, another dedicated to the Attitude Era and a King of Kings edition, featuring the King of Kings himself, Triple H.
Nowadays, Triple H serves as WWE’s Head of Creative, with his in-ring days firmly behind him. The Game has shared a locker room with McIntyre, brought him back to WWE and crowned him NXT Champion in 2017 and now books the Scotsman’s week-to-week storylines.
And while McIntyre had nothing but disdain to share for Punk, he was glowing with his opinion of this year’s other 2K26 cover star.

“He’s easy to work with,” McIntyre reveals, “He was a talent for so many years. He had an incredible Hall of Fame career and now he has such a vision for everybody else.
“Every week I go in there and I’m very particular about my character. I’m very detail oriented. The people who follow the product closely can see that. I say things and I wear things for a reason. If I have an idea and I get excited about it, I can take it to Triple H and say ‘I’m thinking of this’ or ‘I’m thinking of that’ and he’ll go, ‘well what about this?’ and I’ll go ‘oh, I never thought about it that way’.
“There’s a reason he’s in the position he’s in now. He has such a creative mind. So many of the things you see on TV, some of the lines I get credit for, they came straight from him. Specifically ‘I prayed for this and it happened’, that was a Triple H line.
“So it’s amazing, every week, having him at my disposal to pick his brain.”
Three Stages of Hell comes to WWE 2K26
Within WWE 2K26, a match type that has played a significant role in both the careers of McIntyre and Triple H makes its debut, this year. Three Stages of Hell, in which each fall is a different match type, will appear in the latest instalment of the franchise.

Twenty-five years ago, at No Way Out 2001, Triple H famously bested ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in such a bout to bring a bloody, brutal end to their two-year long rivalry. A little over eighteen months later, The Game would down best friend Shawn Michaels in the same gimmick match, at Armageddon 2002, to regain the World Heavyweight Championship.
In January of this year, McIntyre finally defeated Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title. He did so after enduring Three Stages of Hell for the first time in his WWE career.
Fall one was a straight one-on-one bout. The pair then went through a Falls Count Anywhere bout for fall two. before finishing inside the confines of a steel cage. Thanks to interference from Jacob Fatu, the Scottish Warrior emerged victorious, with the WWE Title in tow for the first time in five years.
Little planning. Lots of violence
When asked how difficult a match it must be to put together, essentially being three different matches in one, the WWE Champion revealed to SPORF that very little planning went into his journey through Hell with the American Nightmare.
“I’ll say this, you would be surprised at how little time we took to put it together. It would blow people’s minds to find out when we actually started putting things together.
“Not quite Punk level but I feel the way I feel about Cody. But the way we see it is we’re both professionals. We get it done when the bell rings. Cody’s one of the best in the world. But people would be shocked how little we spoke before that match considering the violence and how long the match was.”
While McIntyre and Rhodes may not have planned their Three Stages of Hell, WWE fans will be able to meticulously craft their most diabolical variations in WWE 2K26.
Four editions of WWE 2K26 are available for pre-order now. King of Kings Edition, Attitude Era Edition, and Monday Night War Edition are scheduled for worldwide release on Friday, March 6, 2026, seven days prior to the Standard Edition, which will be available Friday, March 13, 2026.
