Marcus Rashford now knows exactly why Barcelona opted to sign Anthony Gordon.
Despite the superstar scoring 14 goals and winning La Liga last season, the Spanish giants decided against keeping him at the club.
Barcelona say Anthony Gordon suited the team more than Marcus Rashford
During the summer transfer window, many expected Barcelona to take up its €30 million (£25,782,750) option to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent contract. However, the club instead made the call to bring in Anthony Gordon for €80 million (£68,751,600).
And sporting director, Deco, has now explained the reason behind letting the natural-born goalscorer head back to Old Trafford, telling RAC1: “We are extremely grateful to Rashford. He contributed a lot last season, but our idea of play is much more linked to Anthony. His style fits with what the coach is looking for.
“We see every training session and analyse the team. We have a clear idea what we’re looking for. One of the areas we struggled last season, without Raphinha, was that the team’s energy dropped. It was lost.
“We needed more intensity. We analysed a lot of wingers. Signing someone from the Premier League is almost impossible, but [Hansi Flick] was clear with what he wanted and we worked on a deal from there.”
How have Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon started the 2026/27 season?
Unfortunately, life back in England hasn’t gotten off to a particularly great start for Rashford.
The footballer has yet to score or produce an assist.
However, things are going swimmingly for Gordon.
The gifted athlete has bagged four assists in as many appearances for Barcelona.
