The fine Alisson has received for his ‘misconduct’ following Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest

Alisson has accepted a charge of misconduct from the FA and will pay a fine.

In the aftermath of the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Anfield, the goalkeeper lost his cool.

Alisson receives £8000 fine

It was a frustrating match for Alisson, who gave away a controversial penalty. While some fans felt he made little contact with Nico Williams, the referee pointed to the spot, giving Morgan Gibbs-White an opportunity to put his name in lights, which he grasped with both hands.

During the game, the fourth official’s board caused quite the stir, with the piece of equipment failing to work, preventing Liverpool from making substitutions prior to the awarding of the penalty kick.

Subsequently, after the final whistle, an enraged Alisson booted the board, which has now resulted in him being hit with an £8000 fine.

A statement read: “Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 for misconduct at the Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on 29 August. It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty.”

Should the penalty have been awarded against Alisson?

While Alisson has received a fine, interestingly the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel has come to the conclusion that referee Sam Barrott made a mistake in awarding the penalty against Liverpool.

Three members of the five-man panel shared the belief that the challenge on Williams was not worthy of punishment, but VAR did not intervene.

The KMI Panel explained: “The contact from Alisson was inevitable as a consequence of his momentum in attempting to save the ball. The contact made was not reckless and below the threshold for a penalty.”
