Cody Rhodes reveals why he really supports a Championship football club

EXCLUSIVE: Cody Rhodes has pledged his allegiance to a Championship club.

However, with his side currently struggling, the Clash of Clans fanatic has given the squad some words of support.

Preston North End are the original Invincibles, with the Lancashire team going undefeated in the inaugural English football league season back in 1888-89. Consequently, ‘The Lilywhites’ have an enormous army of fans, which includes Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park.

However, Cody Rhodes might be the highest-profile supporter of them all, with ‘The American Nightmare’ explaining why he adores the side so much.

During an exclusive interview with Sporf, Rhodes explained: “I like to be very loyal and Wade Barrett, Preston North End fan, told me about the club, asked me if I would come check out the team, got me a jersey, got me a kit, the whole deal. Since then, I have remained loyal to him and those lads, so that’s where it all came from. My man, ‘Big Stu’ as I call him, is on commentary now.”

With Preston currently 24th in the Championship, Rhodes has gone all out to try and give the players a burst of motivation.

The 41-year-old exclaimed: “I’m honestly gonna say, ‘Suck it up and move forward here’. There are a couple of things: when you’re an American, and you’re over here saying, ‘This is my favourite football club’, and there’s already this feeling about football over here, even though football/soccer is the world’s most popular sport, I’m putting my name out there, guys, and I’m trying to get on a rocket ship myself.

“I got a movie coming out, I’ve got something else on the way; I’m here in WWE, trying to own the scene, be QB one, so if I’m saying you’re the guys, don’t make a fool out of me, go out there and win, that’s all you’ve got to do. Me, Wade and Michael Cole will be very happy. Not only that, we’ll come. If you keep winning, if this season turns out to be what I think it could be, what Wade has told me, we’ll be there, we’re coming to a game.”
