Lisandro Martinez scored for Manchester United after Sabah mistake

Tonight marked a massive opportunity for Sabah, with the side determined to give Manchester United a run for its money. Unfortunately for the club, despite a bright start, after 27 minutes they were reminded that they were swimming in very deep water, with Matheus Cunha giving his team the lead.

While the Azerbaijani club managed to create chances, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko swiftly put the result beyond doubt, with United going into half-time with a 3-0 lead.

However, while the opening 45 minutes certainly wasn’t ideal for Sabah shot-stopper, Stas Pokatilov, the second segment of the game was much worse.

Fernandes sent a free kick into the box, which landed at the feet of Joshua Zirkzee, who produced a classy backheel.

The ball hit the goalkeeper, bouncing off him and into the path of Lisandro Martinez, who fired it home. Before the goal was scored, Pokatilov looked around aimlessly, appearing to have no idea where the ball had gone.

The finish might be huge for United as goal difference could play a major factor in the league phase of the tournament. However, the team’s next fixture in the competition against Atletico Madrid will likely present a much harder challenge.
