David Moyes makes big claim about Declan Rice’s “special” ability

It’s no secret that West Ham manager David Moyes is a massive fan of Declan Rice. But his most recent statement shows just how highly he rates the midfielder.

The 23-year-old has been sensational for West Ham in the past few seasons. He has impressed Hammers supporters with his ability to boss the midfield area in every game he plays. Rice has been instrumental to the club’s fantastic campaign. He’s torn teams apart with his box-to-box runs and bullied opposition off the ball with his immense physicality.

The England international has attracted attention from all over Europe. According to ESPN, Manchester United have shortlisted him as one of their targets for summer. Chelsea, the club that released Rice as a youth player, are also admirers of the midfielder.

However, acquiring the player’s signature will prove very difficult if his manager’s recent comments are anything to go by.

David Moyes names the price for Declan Rice

Last year, the Scot claimed that his midfielder would cost £100 million. However, the chance to secure him for that fee has long gone.

He explained: “I said in the summer that I thought Declan Rice was £100million. That was the sales, that was cheap, that was your chance to get Declan Rice cheap.

“Declan Rice is right up with some of the best players I’ve certainly had. It’s his potential as well to get better because of his age. There’s a potential for him to improve and mature better because of his age.”

Whilst Rice’s performances have caught the eye, what has been even more impressive has been his ability to produce displays of a consistently high level.

Moyes believes that, at present, there is no other midfielder that is playing better than him in Europe.

He explained: “If you look at the England squad in the Euros who lost in the final, it would be hard to suggest that Declan Rice hasn’t played as well as any other England player since those finals.

“He’s under contract, and we’re really pleased to have him. He’s like a special edition Declan Rice. There are not many like him. For me, he’s arguably playing as well as any midfield player in European football.”
