EXCLUSIVE: Denzel Bentley has opened up about whether a rumoured clash with Liam Smith will actually come to fruition.
The WBO middleweight world champion has showcased immense skill and power throughout his career, with fans very excited to find out whom the talented operator will take on next.
Denzel Bentley says Liam Smith fight is unlikely
While a showdown between Denzel Bentley and Liam Smith would capture the imagination of fans around the UK, according to the Londoner, the likelihood of the match-up coming to fruition is slim to none.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Bentley exclaimed: “I think ‘Beefy’ is a great fighter. He’s had his moments and his time in the game. I think with me fighting him now, I’m in my physical prime, and unfortunately, he’s not. I believe if I fight him now, without being disrespectful, I think I stop him. I do think it’s a great fight, and it’s a name I called for because I respect him. He’s done a lot in the game, and he has a bigger name than me. If I could beat him, I’d become a household name. But the chances of that fight happening now have decreased a lot. I don’t think that fight happens right now if I’m being completely honest.”
Denzel Bentley could fight Aaron McKenna
Throughout his career, the Brit has proven that he’s willing to battle it out with absolutely anyone, hence his recent challenge to Carlos Adames. However, while politics will likely prevent Bentley from setting foot inside the ring with the Dominican, there is another extremely fascinating option on the table.
The 31-year-old explained: “I have openly called out Carlos Adames. He was up for it, but the WBC have blocked that. He has to wait until next month for whoever the mandatory is to fight in an eliminator, and then he has to fight his mandatory. I thought unifications had priority over mandatories, but clearly not in this situation. Aaron McKenna is the IBF champion; I’d love to fight him. I think he’s a great fighter, and it would be a good unification fight.”
