The transfer follows reports of a difference of opinion between the defender and Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi, according to skysports.com. While initial talks suggested a minimum fee of £25.6m (€30m), according to BBC Sport, the final figure appears to have settled slightly higher. The move marks a significant exit for Tottenham as they reshape their squad under De Zerbi.

Spence had struggled to cement a regular starting spot in North London. The club were reportedly willing to sanction a sale this summer to facilitate other market plans.
