Shea Charles has completed a permanent move to Fulham from Southampton in a deal worth a total package of £30m, according to Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder arrives at Craven Cottage as the most expensive Northern Irish player in football history after the clubs finalised the agreement on Tuesday.
The transfer structure includes a guaranteed fee and performance-related add-ons. The deal is worth a “£26m+£4m package,” according to Ben Jacobs. Southampton have also protected their long-term interests by retaining a sell-on clause for the 22-year-old. Charles has committed his future to the London club by signing a five-year contract. The deal also includes an option for a further 12 months.
Fulham’s successful pursuit of Charles has directly impacted their other transfer targets. The club are no longer expected to sign Thiago Pitarch from Real Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is now prepared to keep Pitarch as part of his first-team squad for the upcoming campaign. This suggests Charles was the primary choice for Marco Silva’s midfield reinforcement.
