Eddie Hearn pinpoints why he believes Jake Paul is good for boxing

Eddie Hearn has admitted that Jake Paul is good for boxing ahead of their massive co-promotion on April 30.

The renowned promoter has teamed up with the controversial YouTuber to stage what could be one of the greatest women’s fights of all time. They have put together a collision between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. The two women will trade blows in a monstrous event at Madison Square Garden.

Unlike most people in the fight game, Hearn has embraced the polarising 25-year-old. Many don’t believe that Paul should be allowed to box, given his lack of an amateur career. In contrast, others crave for him to get in the ring with a genuine contender. But regardless of whether people love him or hate him, we’re all watching.

Hearn praises the controversial fighter

On the February 2 edition of the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Hearn revealed why he believes the social media icon is good for the sport.

The businessman said: “A lot of fighters hold it against Jake Paul because of the sacrifices they’ve made because they’ve grafted in the gym for 15 years. But they’re not good enough. And they haven’t built the profile he’s built.

“Why shouldn’t he be allowed to do that? He’s put in the work in the gym and fallen in love with the sport, genuinely.

“I think he’s good for boxing. He brings a different kind of audience. He’s not everybody’s cup of tea. But you can’t start arguing with him, as Dana White’s found out. That diss track [created by Paul about White] is outrageous.

“I think they’re good for each other. Dana never should have gone back to Jake Paul. It’s the last thing you do. He should have just left it.

“But is this not what we want? We want views, interest and drama, confrontation, hype and narrative. That’s our job.”

It’s a good thing that the head of Matchroom Boxing is a fan of Paul’s—they are working together, after all.

Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul: A match made in heaven

Since his introduction to the promotional game in 2010, Hearn has rapidly become one of the biggest names in the fight game. The 42-year-old is responsible for making significant contests, such as Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko and Carl Froch v George Groves. He can tap into a younger market like no other promoter, which is why he is working with Paul.

Hearn understands that the ex-Disney star brings in eyeballs, and he intends on utilising them to make Taylor v Serrano as big as possible. With their combined ability to sell an event, this battle will go down as an iconic moment in women’s boxing history.
