Manchester City didn’t exactly get off to a brilliant start under Enzo Maresca, but now it appears that things are beginning to turn around.

After just 17 minutes, Erling Haaland leapt through the air like a dolphin to bag a tremendous header. However, as excellent as his effort was, Rayan Cherki stole the headlines.

In a moment of sheer footballing brilliance, he slalomed through an army of Crystal Palace players, before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. Then, after the home side reduced the deficit, the Frenchman scored from distance with a blistering strike, before Haaland put the ball in the back of the net again to put the icing on the cake.

Following the match, Cherki was asked whether the first finish was one of his best, to which he replied: “I don’t know. I’m very happy with the win today. See you next week.”

However, his teammate wasn’t having that.

Haaland scoffed: “Say what you actually mean; you scored two top goals.”

Cherki fired back: “No, this is nothing.”

Following a disastrous performance in the Community Shield and a very lucky escape against Bournemouth, Cherki is thrilled that things are looking brighter for his club.

He enthused: “With Pep Guardiola, we had a big story, and now we have started a new story. This is what we’ve wanted to do all week, and I’m here for that.”
