The father of Erling Haaland has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United for his son, amidst transfer links with the Red Devils.
United have been linked with signing the Norwegian in recent transfer windows.
However, there will almost definitely a bidding war for the 20-year-old’s services this summer, with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid also said to be interested in signing him.
Haaland worked with current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the pair were at Molde, so the club may therefore be an attractive option for the Norwegian.
Solskjaer joined the Red Devils from Molde in 2019, initially in a caretaker role. He was appointed as the club’s permanent manager in March 2020.
Haaland’s father doesn’t rule out move to “very proud club” United
Some fans, however, have questioned whether the 20-year-old would make the move to United, given Haaland’s father Alf-Inge’s chequered history with the club.
He was the subject of a vicious tackle from Roy Keane whilst playing for Manchester City in April 2001.
But it seems that Alf-Inge’s past with United won’t come into play when deciding on his son’s next club.
He told Sport1 of Germany: “Manchester United have achieved great success in recent years.
“The club is also trying to build something new there.
“But to draw comparison now is not so easy because he [Erling] is already playing in Dortmund.
“These are two very traditional clubs with a large fan base and a glorious history.
“Man United is a very proud club, just like Dortmund in Germany.”
United apparently had the opportunity to sign Haaland in 2019, having agreed to pay a €20 million release clause in his RB Salzburg contract.
However, they were reported to have refused to meet specific conditions in order to complete the transfer.
Haaland instead moved to Borussia Dortmund, where he has been in nothing short of sensational form.
This season, he has scored 21 goals in 21 Bundesliga appearances. He has also become the fastest player ever to reach 20 Champions League goals.
Haaland has also helped Dortmund to the Champions League quarter-finals. They take on Manchester City in the first leg on April 6.
