Harry Maguire pays tribute to Solskjaer after Man United sacking

Harry Maguire has posted a touching tribute to his former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian legend was relieved of his managerial duties at Manchester United on Sunday. The decision was made after the Red Devils suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford.

Maguire took to his Twitter page to say goodbye to the man who signed him for the club.

He said: “You signed me for the best club in the world and gave me the biggest honour in football. Huge respect and forever grateful. Thank you for everything boss. Legend.”

The decision to sack the Norwegian will surely have upset the centre-back, who had a very close relationship with his manager.

The history of Harry Maguire and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

In July 2019, the former United boss broke the world record transfer fee for a defender, spending £80m to secure the services of the England international. By January 2020, Maguire had secured himself the captain’s armband, indicating that Solskjaer had a considerable amount of trust in him.

In an interview last season with UEFA, the Red Devils captain sang the praises of the Old Trafford legend.

He said: “I feel he’s done brilliantly – he’s cool, calm, but he’s also got the side of him where he’ll turn when he needs to and when the players need a little telling-off. We’re close.”

“We speak a lot before training, before games. I give my ideas to him and how I feel the group is… what we can improve on, and where we can go as a club, and he’s exactly the same.”

“I feel so lucky to be captain of this club. It’s a huge honour. I’m doing everything I can to be a successful captain. I demand a lot… I’m loud around the place, I’m loud around the dressing room.”

United fans give back

Although Solskjaer struggled towards the end of his tenure at Manchester United, fans still adore the Norwegian. Many have taken to social media to praise their former manager for everything he achieved at the club.

One fan posted a picture of the 1999 Champions League winner and captioned it: “Wishing you the very best Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”

Another thanked him for everything he did in his time at the club.

He said: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as Manchester United manager. We thank him for his good deeds at the club. He will never be forgotten.”

Even former UFC champion Conor McGregor took to social media to congratulate Solskjaer on his two years at the club.

The Irishman said: “I want to give a major shout out and a huge thank you to the living legend that is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ole, you are forever, Sir. Icon, inspiration, hero, legend. Thank you Ole.”

A manager rarely receives so much support after being sacked from their club. But it’s different with Solskjaer. He was a genuine icon who bled United. No matter where he goes from here, he’ll always be welcome back at the Theatre of Dreams.
