British Youtuber turned rapper and boxer KSI has found a new opponent for his next fight. He will take on Alex Wassabi on his return to the ring.
KSI, real name Olajide Olatunji, has been trying to make waves in the boxing world alongside an incredibly successful online career. His personal YouTube channel boasts over 23 million subscribers. Additionally, he is part of the ‘Sidemen’ group, whose channels have over 27 million combined subscribers.
But he has not had a boxing match in almost three years. Therefore, Olatunji is looking to get back in the ring. His eventual plan is a match against Logan’s brother Jake Paul, who is due to fight Tommy Fury this summer.
The Fury-Paul fight is in trouble, though, as Tommy is banned from entering the US at the moment. So, KSI offered Jake the chance to co-main event his next fight – which only served to further online beef between them.
Before any plan of taking on Paul, though, KSI has a different opponent to deal with in his boxing return.
Next fight for KSI leaked
TalkSPORT revealed that the Spanish version of DAZN’s website accidentally posted an announcement about KSI’s next fight. According to the press release, the YouTuber has signed a broadcast partnership deal with DAZN and will fight Alex Wassabi.
This match will headline a boxing event involving numerous online and sports personalities battling it out in the ring called ‘MF & DAZN: X Series’.
According to talkSPORT, the announcement also confirmed that the event will take place on August 27 at the O2 Arena in London.
Further information was also revealed about the undercard. For instance, the announcement listed that online star FaZe Temperr will look to settle a score against rapper Blueface. Additionally, Deji will take on fellow YouTube personality Fousey.
But who is KSI’s opponent, Alex Wassabi?
Another YouTuber trying his hand at combat sport, Wassabi has only had one official boxing match. In his March 2022 debut, the American personality claimed victory via split decision. His opponent in that fight was Deji, KSI’s brother, meaning that family revenge is a motivation for KSI.
Wassabi makes videos on various topics, posting to his channel, which has 11.5 million subscribers. A fight between the two social media personalities could prove profitable on pay-per-view – which is likely why DAZN swooped in with the deal.
Just like Wassabi, KSI is putting an unbeaten record on the line in his next fight.
Previous fights
So far, KSI has had three fights, in which he registered two wins and a draw.
His first-ever boxing match saw KSI claim a victory via TKO against fellow British YouTuber Joe Weller in London. Then, his next two matches came against WWE’s latest signing Logan Paul. The pair drew their first match in August 2018, which was a six-round amateur bout.
However, their rematch was listed as a ‘professional’ fight, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here, KSI registered his first ‘pro’ boxing win, beating Logan Paul via split decision.
If he wants any hope of a shot at Jake Paul, KSI will first have to overcome the challenge of Alex Wassabi on August 27.
