Liverpool players can’t believe how different Andoni Iraola is from Arne Slot in one key area.
Today, ‘The Reds’ found a late equaliser to draw 2-2 against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Andoni Iraola calls Liverpool players into fewer meetings than Arne Slot
Today, Andoni Iraola had his first official match in charge of Liverpool, with his side showcasing heart in abundance to emerge from the North East with a point.
The Premier League giants appeared keen to play for the manager, and perhaps that’s because they’ve not got the stress of dealing with the constant team meetings that Arne Slot put them through.
According to The Athletic: “Sources say players have been struck by how few meetings they have been called into compared to Arne Slot’s reign.
“The meetings they have tend to be more concise than during the previous two years under the Dutchman.
“Most of what Iraola has to say is relayed to them on the grass. Away from the training pitch, it’s rare to see him deep in conversation with any members of his squad. He prefers to maintain some distance.”
However, that doesn’t mean that the players get to relax, with U21s head coach Rob Page telling This Is Anfield that Iraola has “put a stamp on it straight away” with a major increase in intensity on the training pitch.
He added: “To do that, you have to train it. You can’t just turn up on a Saturday and expect to turn it on.”
