Erling Haaland is one of the best forwards in world football, but a significant transfer to Barcelona may not be coming anytime soon.
The Norwegian has played to an extremely high standard in the Bundesliga. But that doesn’t mean that he is necessarily going to stay there in the long term.
Last Monday, his agent Mino Raiola met with Barca president Joan Laporta in Turin to discuss a potential move to the Nou Camp. This has given fans of the Spanish side an element of hope. However, according to the player’s representative, a deal is far from done.
As per Mundo Deportivo, his agent said: “Can Haaland wait for Barcelona? He can wait for everyone. We do not have a pre-agreement with any club. We will look for the best option. I’m not ruling out another year in Dortmund.”
Financial crisis at the Nou Camp
Barcelona are one of the best teams on the planet. But in recent times, their financial constraints have prevented them from reproducing their brilliant best. According to ESPN, La Liga’s corporate director, Jose Guerra, says the side’s low salary cap is down to the club losing €500m last campaign.
Their overall financial limit now stands at €97m, which is alarmingly €650m less than their fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Where will Erling Haaland play next season?
Ultimately, Barca’s financial position means that they likely won’t be able to afford Haaland anytime soon. However, Raiola still believes in the Spanish giants despite their compromising position.
He stated: “Barcelona will always remain one of the biggest clubs in the world despite their current situation. In one or two years, they will return. They have the power to create great economic agreements.”
The Norwegian international has plenty of options on the table, with clubs all over Europe chasing his signature. He may play another season in Germany, and when the Blaugranas can afford him, a move there could be possible.
Real Madrid is another potential opportunity for the forward. We may well see him in their iconic white strip very soon. This move would certainly excite the fans at the Bernabeu, and given that the club are reportedly raising €400m, it could happen.
