Pep Guardiola could finally test himself in the international game.

Having won everything there is to win in club football, a World Cup or European trophy would add the cherry on top of an already delicious cake.

Pep Guardiola has entered talks with Italy to become the newest manager of the 4x world champions.

According to Sky in Italy, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) would love the esteemed coach to take over the role

Legendary defender, Paolo Maldini, who has taken on the reins as the new technical director of FIGC, headed to Barcelona with his advisor Leonardo, to speak with the former Bayern Munich gaffer.

While it’s unclear whether Guardiola fancies the challenge or not, the FIGC is going above and beyond to make a deal work. Over the next three days, the former AC Milan defender will explain his vision to the man who’s recently departed Manchester City.

Gennaro Gattuso left the Italy role after the European powerhouses failed to qualify for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup. And with Guardiola currently a free agent for the first time in 20 years, now would be the perfect chance to snap him up.

Other potential candidates are Andrea Pirlo and Roberto Mancini.

Why didn’t Pep Guardiola become England manager despite having a deal in place?

An Italy move would be massive for Guardiola.

However, it’s not like the football genius hasn’t had opportunities to coach in this realm before.

This is why Guardiola turned down England.
