Phil Collins overjoyed as son signs with former Bundesliga champions

Phil Collins was thrilled after his son signed on the dotted line to play for the ex-Bundesliga champions.

It appears talent runs in the family, as the son of the musical legend is carving out his own path.

After years of watching his father, Phil Collins, perform in front of massive crowds, Matthew Collins now has his own chance to shine, signing a deal to play for 1860 Munich, who now operate in the fourth tier of German football, Regionalliga, after getting relegated from 3.Liga last season.

During a trial period, the sportsman impressed the coaches of the club that previously shared the Allianz Arena with Bayern Munich.

With his dad being one of the biggest artists on the planet, it’s no surprise that the athlete has had a fascinating upbringing. Born in Switzerland to his father’s third wife, Orianne Cevey, Collins was raised in Miami before attending boarding school in Evian, France, and later moving to Germany to chase his dream by joining Astoria Walldorf’s youth set-up, and going on to represent Hannover 96.

He then made the move to Austria to play for WSG Tirol before switching to second-division side Austria Salzburg. However, he’s now ready to make his mark back in Germany, with his new team optimistic that he can help them rise back through the divisions.

Despite the current situation the club finds itself in, they remain one of the country’s most famous teams, having featured as one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963, before claiming the title in the 1965/66 season.

In addition, the side captured the German Cup on two occasions and even made it to the 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup final, where they fell short at Wembley Stadium against West Ham.

A picture has emerged online of the footballer in his new kit, sat with his father who looks nothing short of overjoyed.
