Leandro Paredes involved in another controversial moment weeks after World Cup brawl

Leandro Paredes has caught the headlines again for all the wrong reasons.

Following the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final in which Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, the defender ended up in a scuffle in which he seemingly grabbed Eric Garcia by the throat before launching Gavi towards the ground. And now he’s back in hot water.

On August 2, Boca Juniors travelled to Estadio Marcelo Bielsa in Rosario, Argentina, to take on Newell’s Old Boys in an Argentine Primera Division fixture.

With Leandro Paredes earning a reputation for his fiery temper, he did nothing but add to his divisive status during the match.

During an outrageous moment, while an opponent was tumbling towards the floor, the Boca Juniors player booted the ball right at him with thunderous force.

Unsurprisingly, the referee was quick to go to his pocket to present the 32-year-old with a yellow card.

Of course, football enthusiasts headed to social media to give their thoughts on what they’d just witnessed.

One asked: “How is he always involved in something like this?”

A second posted: “The easiest yellow card you’ll ever see,” while a third added: “Typical Paredes.”

A fourth simply said: “He never learns.”

It goes without saying that Paredes’ antics during the biggest match in all of football last month sent shockwaves around the sporting world.

Following the explosive turn of events, players far and wide refused to shy away from giving their opinions.
